Sourcing Replacement Parts
Where and how to find batteries, floppy disks, adapters, and donor cameras for Mavica repairs.
The parts ecosystem
With Sony Mavica cameras 20+ years old and long discontinued, sourcing parts requires knowing where to look.
Batteries
- Third-party NP-F series — Amazon, eBay (Wasabi Power, RAVPower, Kastar are reliable brands)
- Original Sony NP-F — occasionally found NOS (new old stock) on eBay at premium prices
- Tip: The NP-F550 offers the best balance of capacity, size, and price
Floppy disks
- New old stock — still available from eBay sellers, Japanese import stores
- Brands to trust: Sony, Maxell, Verbatim (avoid no-name disks)
- Warning: Very cheap disks from unknown brands have high failure rates
- Tip: Buy in bulk (50-100 pack) to stock up while supply lasts
Memory Stick (original)
- eBay — original Memory Stick cards (not Pro, not Duo) in 32-128 MB
- The MSAC-FD2M adapter — enables Memory Stick use via the floppy slot
- Tip: Test cards immediately — flash memory degrades over time
Donor cameras
For parts like LCD screens, lens assemblies, and circuit boards, buying a broken/parts camera is often the most economical approach:
- eBay "for parts" listings — broken cameras sold cheaply
- Yahoo Auctions Japan — larger selection, use a proxy buying service
- Local thrift stores / charity shops — occasionally strike gold
The MaviCats Marketplace
The MaviCats marketplace is specifically designed for buying and selling retro camera gear — including parts, accessories, and repair services. Check the marketplace for community sellers who stock Mavica-specific items.
Essential spares to keep on hand
- 2-3 NP-F550 batteries — always have charged spares
- 50+ floppy disks — they're consumables
- 1 cleaning disk — for preventive drive maintenance
- 1 donor camera — same model, for parts if needed

The CD Mavica series (CD200–CD1000) contains a miniature CD-R/RW writer that burns images directly to 8cm mini discs. Over time, the laser diode degrades and the optical assembly collects dust, leading to write failures. This guide covers diagnosis, cleaning, and the limits of field calibration.
